FBI sources are telling reporters that before the Coral Gables Bank of America opened at 9 a.m. this morning, an employee was kidnapped from his home. An explosive device was strapped to the person who was kidnapped. That person entered the Coral Gables bank. At 8 a.m., officials were notified of the Miami-area hostage situation and began their response. U.S. 1 in both directions, Metrorail, the nearby University of Miami, and two elementary schools were all locked down during the response.
Miami hostage kidnapped Thursday night
There was a home invasion in the Miami Nob Hill apartments Thurs. This home invasion might have been a kidnapping, and has been connected to the bank robbery. All all-points bulletin has been issued for a red Mustang automobile with two passengers that may be connected to this kidnapping and home invasion. The FBI and police have not yet said if the people responsible really entered the financial institution themselves. Either way, it was a Bank of America employee that was strapped to the bomb. It is also not yet clear if the Coral Gables Bank of America was being robbed for a quick payday loans no fax or if the Miami hostage situation was intended to create a distraction for some other crime.
Bomb diffused after the Miami hostage situation concluded
There is full confirmation from Coral Gables Bank and the FBI that hostages were kept within the financial institution during the morning. Just three and a half hours following the Miami hostage scenario started, the last individuals had left the building. The bomb that had been strapped to an employee was apparently removed, because every person left the building and the bomb was still inside. While the bomb was diffused, officials stayed on the scene — though hostages were taken for medical treatment. Until anything was declared safe, the highways, public transportation, and schools were all kept closed.
