Substance delivery devices, e-cigs, need authorization from Food and Drug Administration

E-cigs are the e-cigarettes that are known as the future of smoking. Electronic cigarette companies may have to sit and listen when the FDA explains what that entails. The FDA has issued a warning to five electronic cigarette corporations for making unproven claims that electronic cigarettes will help individuals quit smoking. Unsafe manufacturing processes and adulterated products was what some of the e-cigarette corporations were said to have been doing. Interesting drug was found within the product at one of the electronic cigarette companies. There were drugs for weight loss and erectile dysfunction. According to the agency, these electronic cigarette corporations are violating federal law until their products undergo clinical trials for FDA approval as substance distribution devices.

E-cigs do not help you stop smoking, says FDA

Five electronic cigarette companies found nasty letters from the FDA in their mailboxes Thursday. The letters explained, according to WebMD, that drug safety laws are being broken with e-cig firms and their product. 15 working days were given by the FDA for them to revise “practices which violate various provisions of the Federal Food, Drug and Cosmetic Act.” The Food and Drug Administration says there were false claims made by the five companies. They claimed to help individuals quit smoking. The FDA sent one more letter to the Electronic Cigarette Association saying that an approval has to be made on drug delivery devices as the e-cig is legally defined. WebMD explains what is required to try and get FDA approval. All of the companies for e-cigs can have to show their product is safe with costly clinical trials with lots of raw data. As follows are the businesses with Food and Drug Administration warning letters:

  1. There’s Cixi E-Cig Technology Inc. Ltd., Las Vegas, Nev.
  2. Then there’s E-Cigarette Direct LLC, Parker, Colo.
  3. There’s also Gamucci America/Smokey Bayou Inc., Jacksonville, Fla.
  4. Fourth is Johnson Creek Enterprises LLC, Johnson Creek, Wis.
  5. Last is Ruyan America Inc., Minneapolis, Minn.

With e-cigs you inhale antifreeze

Tests were done by the FDA. These tests were on electronic cigarettes. According to Med Page Today, lab test results were posted in June showing that the poisonous ingredient in antifreeze, diethylene glycol, and nitrosamines were both carcinogens in e-cigarettes. There are warnings about health on all tobacco cigarettes and FDA-approved nicotine patches and gum. Electronic cigarettes don’t have any health warnings on the label at all. None of the e-cigarette business has submitted an application for approval or evaluation to the Food and Drug Administration.

E-cigs wanted by many

Electronic cigarettes emerged globally in 2002 and were touted as a safe alternative to tobacco cigarettes. E-cigs didn’t really get began until 2006 though, states USA Today. Last year the FDA directed customs officials to block entry of imported e-cigs to the country. Stopping shipments was too much. A federal judge ruled against the FDA. There was then an appeal made by the FDA where they won a stay of ruling. Litigation will happen later this month as scheduled. The result will affect millions. Millions use the e-cig. The industry estimates that one more 20,000 to 30,000 people start inhaling their vapors every week.
